Class Imagery Cookbook

This 9th grade project provides is a companion piece to reading the Laura Esquivel novel Like Water for Chocolate. This project provides students with a creative writing opportunity as well as a chance to share family, culture, and food. Students create a recipe page and a descriptive narrative focused on the use of imagery. This mirrors the style of Esquivel’s writing, where each chapter focuses on a specific recipe. The project worksheet guides students through the writing process, helping them craft the narrative and employ imagery to create thoughtful and descriptive stories about the food that is significant to them. And the project ends with a sharing where students bring in their own food (like the Baklava pictured here, which a student brought in to share with everyone).
